Artists’ associations have their specific history of origins and an experience of existence that has been especially eventful over the past century. This applies to artists’ associations in Germany and their strive to set a tangible and substantive new beginning in the visual arts, following the attacks on art by the Nazis during the Second World War. More recent is the reorientation towards the associations of the Eastern European neighbors. Until the end of 1990-ies, artists’ associations were largely immersed into political context, and therefore were not able to function as free associations. During a very short period of time, they have managed to reorient and function confidently within the contemporary art scene on national, European and international levels.

The idea of the European networking of artists and their stakeholders presents an important goal, which can be implemented through co-operation, alternating exhibitions and the exchange of ideas.
